Science with Purpose . Identity with Power . Learning with Joy

Purpose Academics helps students discover their genius through an African Centered, hands-on science—starting with our signature course, Melanin Matters.

We also offer a science club which supports k-12 students as they complete a project for competition in a virtual science fair.

Where Culture Meets Serious Science

Most students never learn the real science of melanin or see themselves represented in STEM. Purpose Academy changes that by teaching rigorous science in a way that honors identity, culture, and community.

We empower students with critical thinking, deep scientific understanding, and confidence in STEM — offering a strong, supportive alternative for learners disconnected from the traditional school system

Melanin Matters — A Signature Science Course for Middle Schoolers

This year long program dives into biology, chemistry, health, and technology through the rich context of melanin science. Students learn by doing, discussing, and discovering — not just memorizing facts.

  • Hands-on experiments with home materials

  • Real science concepts explained intuitively

  • Projects, presentations, and creative learning

  • Confidence + community building

Join The Science Kids Science Club

Our Science Club supports students across K–12 with bi-monthly sessions, project coaching, and access to community and mentorship — including preparation for the National Organization for Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE) Virtual Science Fair.

TESTIMONIALS

Families Love Our Science Program

 Mama Ericka,
Thank you for being such an incredible teacher! Your passion for science lights up our classroom and inspires us to explore, question, and discover. You make learning an exciting adventure, and we are so grateful for your dedication and care.

You don’t just teach science; you teach us to believe in the power of knowledge and to always reach for the stars.

 Dear Mama Ericka,
You're an amazing teacher. I've learned a lot about melanin and pigments over this school year. The classes you taught us were always rich with lessons on pigments and all our favorite colors! I love the songs, which were great. You also made deep assignments which challenged my knowledge and thoughts. I love each one of our classes and I hope you did too. And I'll never forget these science classes. Without them I wouldn't have learned anything about the importance of melanin.

K.O. - Student

Melanin Mastery was a class filled with the unexpected! My sun, "M" learned and taught me so much about melanin throughout the school year. What stands out for me is how melanin is much more than the pigment in our skin but a part of our body's healing package. He shared how the animal kingdom used melanin for survival. He stayed engaged and enthusiastic the entire year with this subject. An outstanding bonus is how his confidence with researching and giving presentations increased. I also loved how Mama Ericka encouraged him to include his drawing talents within his assignments. That sense of self assuredness has carried forward beyond the class. Melanin Mastery class was like deep science hidden inside a slice of pie.
