Whether your student is preparing for college-level biology, building a strong middle school science foundation, or exploring a focused melanin science topic, Purpose Academics offers engaging live instruction designed to develop scientific knowledge, critical thinking, cultural confidence, and curiosity.

Melanin Matters is our signature middle school science course exploring life science, biology, chemistry, and human anatomy through the lens of melanin.
Students discover the chemical and biological functions of melanin, where and what it does in life on earth, how it is used in modern technology and medicine, and where melanin exists in the body; from skin and eyes to the brain and nervous system.
Students practice research methods, presentation skills, participate in labs, and build scientific literacy.
This course strengthens identity, deepens understanding science, and develops confident STEM thinkers.
Best For:
Advanced 5th graders
Grades 6-8
9th graders that need a foundation for high school science

This College Board-authorized AP Biology course provides preparation in biological concepts, laboratory investigation, data analysis, scientific argumentation, and AP exam skills.
Students also examine biology through African-centered historical, ethical, medical, environmental, and cultural perspectives.
These applications deepen the required AP Biology curriculum without replacing College Board content or laboratory requirements, providing a premium specialized AP Biology experience.
Best For:
Grade 10-12
Motivated students ready for a college level science course
Have taken high school biology and chemistry (strongly recommended)
Have not completed both recommended courses but are willing to demonstrate readiness
Can read challenging material, study independently, meet deadlines, conduct supervised at-home labs, analyze data, and can learn to explain scientific ideas using evidence.

These six-week live online courses give students an opportunity to explore important questions about melanin through biology, health, history, and scientific research. Each quarter features a new topic, including:
Melanin the Myth, the Legend
The Vitamin D Mystery
More Than Skin Deep
Mind Your Own Melanin's Business
where we will uncover melanin facts and myths, the question of melanin and vitamin D, where melanin is found throughout the body, and evidence-based ways to care for melanin and our health.
Mini-courses may be taken individually and are ideal for students who want a focused, culturally grounded science experience without committing to a full-year course.
Best For:
Middle Schoolers
Are curious about melanin and the human body
Enjoy culturally grounded science and discussion
Want a focused science experience without a full-year commitment

Science Kids Science Club is a supportive STEM community where students explore scientific questions, prepare for science fairs, and connect with other curious minds.
Each month the student will take on a science project.
Students learn how to design experiments, analyze data, and confidently present their discoveries.
Students will be guided in preparing for events like the National Organization of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE) Virtual Science Fair.
Best For:
Grade K-12
Students who love asking questions
Add Science Fair to Portfolio
Curious about African American Scientists
Enjoy hands on Science Projects

The Melanin Science Lab is a One to two Hour hands on science lab where students get to learn some of the main roles melanin plays in our bodies and get to demonstrate those properties in hands on experiments.
